Review of I'm Not There (2007) by Jonny B — 22 Jan 2011
This is Fellini's '8 1/2' about the myths and truths of Bob Dylan - everything about this film owes something to Fellini, from the narrative structure, surreal visuals, scenes taken directly from '8 1/8' and the list goes on.
However, Todd Haynes is not a hack he is a brilliant filmmaker and this is his best work. The film looks stunning in B & W and colour, the acting cannot be beaten, the re-working of Dylan's songs works wonderfully, it's filled with imagination, it's fascinating every second of the way and it's a film that shouldn't be missed no matter the excuse or pre-bias.
To say this film is a masterpiece is being understated.
