Review of Il Divo (2008) by Barbara R — 03 Aug 2010
A movie not so much about crime as it was about politics and power, Il Divo is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. Toni Servillo acted brilliantly as Andreotti capturing his humanity, his quicks, his menacing looks, his quiet intensity and his passionate and cynical sense of political and divine destiny.
Director Sorrentino painted the movie as serious and dark but also light and funny at the perfect moments. He also made Andeotti seem as human as a tyrant could possibly be seen. I must say the length of shots and the choice of music both classical and modern set the tone for scenes that would otherwise be too boring or too serious and intense.
I wish there were more (political) stories filmed with the same genius as Sorrentino's.
