Review of I Really Hate My Job (2007) by Private U — 19 Jun 2008
If you do not appreciate theatre, you will not enjoy this movie at all. That being said, as a lover of theatre and acting in general, this movie is an actor's (well, actress' if you will) dream. The movie has an ensemble cast, which focuses not on one particular character's plotline, but in the events of the group dynamic as a whole.
It is intellectual, with defined character qualities, and anyone who knows the stage realizes how mildly difficult to have a well defined character that isn't stereotypical and pigeonholed.. which equals boring to an audience.
It takes a certain type of person to sit down and enjoy an ensemble production, so it isn't difficult for me to understand why others would not enjoy this. It is not something you rent and sit down to expecting a bucket of laughs and a dramatic plot.
It is a simple movie, but vastly intriguing when seen with the correct eye. Go watch 27 dresses if you want to see the 'damsel in distress getting saved by the man right in front of her face the whole movie' Those shitty movies pumped out by hollywood producers to make a quick buck water down the female agenda and reduce us to lovesick puppies. This film assums- god forbid- that a woman want something more in her life than biding her time waiting to be rescued.
