Review of High Sierra (1941) by Thomaz N — 23 Oct 2007
A key picture in the history of black and white cinema, released shortly before the much more famous "Maltese Falcon". This was the first true film noir, and not by coincidence also Bogart's first main role.
True, Bogie's female partner Ida Lupino is dwarved in comparison, but "High Sierra" has everything you might expect from a classy movie made during Hollywood's Golden Age.
