Review of Here Comes Peter Cottontail (1971) by Mr P — 08 Apr 2007
As we know, I'm a mark for the Rankin Bass movies. I love Peter Cottontail. Though it's by far not as strong a film as many of the other holiday classics the studio made, it's entertaining.
My only gripe is that it really followed every OTHER holiday more than Easter, since the plot involved Peter Cottontail going through the holidays trying to find his niche. A good idea though...and fun.
But let's try to give Easter it's due. Another strong (aka trippy) feature is the french caterpillar. It wouldn't be so strange if the thing didn't have a stereotypical frenchman's HEAD attached to the caterpillar torso.
Creepy!!! I don't know what he has to do with Easter but hey, it's Rankin Bass. I'm definitely positive that they were high during most of these films (SEE MAD MONSTER PARTY).
