Review of Hannah Arendt (2012) by Awa D — 12 Aug 2013
This movie raised so many questions that it is impossible to address them all. I will just focus on one, the core of Hannah Arendt's philosophy: the banality of evil. The movie goes on showing how the clinical evil of WWII European camps (concentration, interment, work) and the terrible efficiency of the Nazi system which ended in so many deaths is possible the moment we refuse to think, the moment we (for different reasons) give the responsibility of our actions to someone else.
That question haunts me just as much as the fact that throughout the movie, people opposing Arendt were not listening to what she was saying and were denying facts that have since been proven true. I think it is a great movie in that regard.
