Review of Hangover Square (1945) by Roger T — 29 Nov 2009
More or less remake of Jack the Ripper film Lodger (1944), with Laird Cregar as another serial killer terrorising Victorian London, George Sanders as hero and Linda Darnell replacing Merle Oberon as the can can dancing beauty (although villainess in this movie). Suffering from insanity, rather fleshy Mr Bone goes around killing people from left and right, but hey, this is 1945, so not his mental illness nor his weight are exploited as sewer of filth-and-gore fantasies. Wellmade Gothic triller, just too bad it was not filmed in color to showcase those stylish costumes and sets!
Shown in Finland as "Pimeyden tullen", "When the darkness falls".
