Review of Hamburger Hill (1987) by Cameron W — 02 Jun 2013
This is a gloomy and realistic portrayal of the futility of war, and the lives and deaths of many innocent men. The screenplay for this film deserves to be mentioned alongside other great anti-war films like, The Thin Red Line, Full Metal Jacket, and Apocalypse Now.
And Irvin directs this marvelous script with gritty and horrific intensity that does no less than make you feel inside the battle and dealing with these mens deaths just as the characters are. As far as the acting goes, all of it was very good, but Dylan Mcdermott steals the show as the tough, yet sensitive, fun-loving, and utterly human, sargeant.
This film is nothing short of a masterpiece, and one of the greatest anti-war films ever made.
