When sitting down to watch this, I was pondering whether ti was to become another one of the British lower class dramedies.. And to an extent it is. The plot is simple enough, the casting is obvious and not particularly interesting, but it's the migrant vignette's that lift GROW YOUR OWN from no more than BBC afternoon movie status.

The Chinese Refugee story line is engrossing as is the South african one, that alone should get you through the rest of the antequated machinations of the plot. Nicely shot, richly developed production of the allotments against the terminal grey give the film a nice transpositional pallette.

Its a nice enough distraction that doesn't offend.
