Review of Grizzly Man (2005) by Craig Z — 05 Sep 2008
Herzog is one of cinema's living treasures. Most of his work is great, and all of it is interesting. In Grizzly Man, Herzog continues to indulge his fascination with obsessive, eccentric individuals, in this case Timothy Treadwell, who lived (and died) among Alaska's grizzlies.
Timothy was truly bizarre, a man who wanted not simply to live with the bears, but to BE a bear. His story is alternately funny, sad, inspiring, and pathetic. Herzog himself is often baffled by Treadwell, who's idyllic worldview is in complete opposition with his own.
An absolute must-see.
