Review of Good Vibrations (2012) by Kevin C — 11 Oct 2013
Liked this a lot. Belfast punk is a little behind the rest of the world, but the overall depiction of Belfast is a war torn isolated dump.
Despite being late to the party they more than make up for it in enthusiasm. Two excellent scenes from this likeable film, are when Hooley first discovers punk and is overcome and carried away literally in the moment. The other excellent chapter is we don't hear Teenage Kicks at its recording, or its subsequent trawl around London to numerous rejections. We're in on the hidden gem, and the film plays it in all its glory when Peel plays it to the world back-to-back on Radio 1. Cue dancing in the streets of Belfast!
Ignore the dodgy wigs this is a joyous, heartwarming tale.
