Review of Gideon's Daughter (2005) by Melody S — 17 Sep 2007
I'm a sucker for melodrama so I was fairly hooked from the opening music and flowers shot. Nighy, Blunt and Richardson more than earn the accolades that have been bestowed, and the central oft-repeated song is beautiful enough to make it worth watching.
But too often the artsy pretention outweighs all aspirations to basic honesty, and even though it's longer than the average TV movie, it really tries to cover too much for its own good.
