Review of Georgy Girl (1966) by Michael S — 09 Oct 2007
Drama-goes-comedy Cinderella story set in Swinging London. A supposedly unattractive girl falls in love, is offered a mistress contract by second father, adopts a baby from bitchy friend, realizes her love is a child, ends up marrying for money.
At the same time a feel-good movie and a tale of the cruel realities of a shollow world. The cast includes superbly bitchy Charlotte Rampling, a britishly distant James Mason (known to all fans of Ivanhoe as Isaas, the jew from York), a sometimes over the top crazy Alan Bates, and a very present Lynn Redgrave.
