Review of Geography Club (2013) by Graham B — 02 Jul 2015
Gay teen Russel is a student at a high school " focusing on his parents goal of getting him into Yale. Completely in the closet, he dates girls, acting as the wing man for his bestfriend Gunnar.
After starting a secret affair with a jock footballer, he is asked to join the "Geography club" which turns out to be a secret support group for gay students, but they have aspirations to make it not so secret.
Whilst its heart is in the right place, this film is quite the snoozefest. This teen comedy isn't particularly funny and the story arcs all over the place concluding in a big messy non-ending. Unexplored characters, plot lines and relationships make it seem more of a TV pilot than a stand alone film.
I applaud its intentions, but this is not a good film.
