Review of Gay Sex in the 70s (2005) by Dan . — 14 Mar 2010
Great documentary that takes a bold look at the gay community in New York City during the years between 1969 (Stonewall) and 1981 (when AIDS changed everything). The footage is incredible, and since a couple of men talk about how they experienced that time, it is also a pretty personal, intimate view that is presented.
The way they talk about those years and the footage shown really makes the past come alive. And while the film celebrates this era, it also highlights the dark side of it. Hearing those men say how many friends they lost to AIDS and how it changed their world is heartbreaking.
Very good, interesting film.
