Review of Gangs of New York (1938) by Brian H — 08 Aug 2012
Wow, I was amazed by this movie. What really impressed me was Daniel Day-Lewis's performance and the set design. First off, I had not seen Daniel Day-Lewis in a film before I watched Gangs of New York.
I was surprised with how believable his performance was. Every time he had a knife, I thought he was going to kill someone! Every other actor in this movie gave a good performance too, but it was Daniel Day-Lewis who led this show.
The set design really brought me into this world that Martin Scorsese had recreated for us. It was really cool especially for me to be able to watch a movie based in the 1800's, since most of the other film's in this time period are romances.
It's a classic.
