Review of Fruitvale Station (2013) by Dustin G — 28 Dec 2013
Simple, real and intense. It plays like a docudrama and is a true story about an incident that was never properly dealt with and still remains strong in people's hearts and minds from the area it happened in.
The performances are all great and add to the sense of realism. The story, following Oscar throughout his day, flashing back at points into his past and observing him in his relationships with his family, sets up the ending for a particularly emotional punch in the gut. And if you were unaware of the story going into the movie, as I was, all the more so. One of the better films of 2013.
