Review of Frank and Ava (2020) by Scorpiotiger — 03 Jun 2019
A must see for Sinatra fans as film chronicles little known part of his career; the downturn. Excellent supporting cast who ooze of the characters they portray. Emily Low provides plenty of heat on screen as Ava and unknown Rico Simonini pulls off Frank nicely capturing his vulnerability and yearning for Ava and pursuit of Maggio role.
Great recreation of scene from the film with Emrhys Cooper playing Monty Clift. Cinematography from fountains in Rome to Frank's house in Palm Springs is magical at times and I was delighted to see Harry Dean Stanton in his last role and Dionne Warwick belting a tune on camera (as Ella Fitzgerald ?).
Be sure to watch through the credits which roll under a heartbreaking original tune by young performer Keaton Simons.
