Review of Fort Apache Napoli (2009) by Garrett C — 26 Sep 2011
John Ford's directing brilliance is slammed in our face again in this glorious depiction of a United States Cavalry. The magnificent landscapes of Monument Valley are in full swing and Ford's characters are as always very interesting and conflicted.
Henry Fonda and John Wayne play the perfect contrasting characters, and Ford's supporting cast such as Ward Bond and Shirley Temple are well chosen. I also must admit I had a bit of a laughing fit when one of the new recruits tries to mount a bare backed horse and gets launched over the beast.
It's a very Buster Keatonesque moment.
