Review of Fata Morgana (1972) by Jean G — 26 Aug 2008
This is one of the weirdest films I've watched thus far. It's by Werner Herzog. The only other film of his I liked was Grizzly Man, which I loved. It has no story, but simply continuous film of harsh and weird environments, people and images in the Sahara desert with a Creation narrative in the background.
It gets more interesting and weirder as it goes along, as even the camera itself becomes aware that this is just a film, a fake, not even a documentary. I think I only liked it because of the weird and harsh surroundings, but it's not boring either.
It has some interesting images and concepts.
