No, Empire Records is not an Oscar worthy movie. No, it's not great, it's not all that deep, and it's not educational.
What Empire Records is, though, is a light-hearted flick which gives some great insights on the typical 90's thought. We looked at chain stores like Borders and Tower Records with a bitter-sweet view, as we loved the selection, but hated the loss of our quirky and local establishments.
Enjoy this movie, it's worth a watch, or three. The characters are likeable, the music is good, and the humor is juvinile, but fun.
