Johnie To is indeed the Godfather of Hong Kong cinema. The traid society is portrayed in the film as realistic as it can get. Also consider this: the producer of the movie - Charles Heung is actually the real life triad boss of a major triad - Sunn Yi Onn in Hong Kong.
A lot of the storyline in the 2 movies and characters' names are even based on real life gangsters. Really interesting stuff.
