Review of El Norte (1983) by Andy C — 21 Feb 2009
El Norte presents the world of immigration into Southern California very authentically. It tells the story of a brother and sister who go to america to excape the oppression they receive in Guatemala. It is a rather beautiful film and the performances by these two leads are very consistent.
Even though you kinda know how the film is gonna end, it remains fresh and never feels manipulative or heavy handed about the subject matter.
