Review of Earth vs. the Flying Saucers (1956) by Paul M — 10 Aug 2009
One of the true sci-fi classics of the 50's, this thoughtful film, featuring some of Ray Harryhausen's best special effects, depicted famous national landmarks such as the Washington Monument and the Capitol Building being destroyed by invading aliens when the guys who made Independence Day were still in diapers.
This time it's the remnants of an ancient dying race trying to bluff the Earth into surrendering to them with their superior technology but ultimately very limited forces, after an initial peaceful approach on their part results in a violent reaction by Earth's military.
There's a message in there somewhere.
