Review of Donnie Brasco (1997) by Matthew L — 07 Sep 2009
An amazing gangster film. Donnie Brasco gains even more power because it is based on true events. Johnny Depp-the finest, and most versatile actor of the past twenty years-gives an Oscar-worthy performance as Joseph Pistone, A.K.A. Donnie Brasco, a FBI agent who goes undercover in the mob in the 1970's.
The film also features a fantastic supporting performance from screen legend Al Pacino. Pacino, whose experience with this genre is well documented, is nothing short of flawless here, falling into the role with ease.
Donnie Brasco ranks with Goodfellas in defining the gangster film genre in the 90's. A superb cast, incredible writing; Donnie Brasco is a classic.
