Review of District 9 (2009) by Tanner B — 21 Apr 2016
One of my favorite films to date. A classic story, an unlikable character turned likable. Villain to compassionate being. Turn heel. The blend of mockumentary, found footage and actual narrative seems organic and fluid, the kind of style I love.
And the visuals are gorgerous. It looks real. Not just the effects, but the real stuff too, as in captured really well. Hard to explain unless you watch the film yourself. Also, the CGI blends seamlessly with the real footage, to the point of looking like 100% footage from the cameras.
Not strange considering director Neill Blomkamp's background is in visual effects. 10/10. Now, just get on with the sequel already Blomkamp!!
