It would not surprise if the creators of Detention suffered from dyslexia and ADD. It's downright manic and rushed. It tries too hard to be hip and relevant, while simultaneously referencing '90s novelties that no one really gives a shit about.
It worked for Scott Pilgrim Versus The World; it Hindenberg'd for Detention. The acting is subpar. The visual effects are garish. The plot: one of the worst I've ever seen.
