Review of Deadful Melody (1994) by Matt W — 29 Sep 2007
More wuxia here as revenge obsessed Brigitte Lin battles a variety of bizarre warlords by unleashing deadly melodies from her magic harp, wreaking havok in giant explosions of colour which are apparently untterly undefensible. Obviously this a rather bizzare pretext for a movie and indeed the film revels in its peculiarity and this is the great strength of it - particuarly the motley collection of all-powerful baddies.
THe problem with this film is that there is very little sympathy for the heroine and indeed she isn';t even in the movie that much. When she is it's to deliver some dispassionate beats to some defenceless underlings.
Not a massive recommendation for this but it is interesting if you're into this sort of thing. It is pretty funny as well, though not always intentionally.....
