Review of Daydream Nation (2011) by Annie W — 31 May 2011
A weird, yet intriguingly raw teen film. Almost a a haze in retrospective, but with surprising substance for a teenage drama. Dennings captivates us as she narrates her experience in the "year where everything happened" in a town where the youth of tomorrow have drowned into madness of drugs, sex, and gossip.
Although it sometimes thinks its more deep than it is, the film still offers flashes of smart dialog that you wont forget anytime soon. Reece Thompson, who was the lead in 2 other teenage films, Assassination of a High School President and Rocket Science, has got the quirky, ackward, and confused teenager down.
Out of all the male leads, Josh Lucas was the one who surprised me with a performance both charming and thats pathetically and psychotically sympathetic. Not to mention the indie soundtrack was superb.
Check it.
