Review of Danger: Diabolik (1968) by Andy L — 12 Oct 2010
Danger Diabolik is a gorgeous film with crazy production design, lighting, and tons of fun camera tricks. Mario Bava does a fantastic job at creating this lush inventive world of Danger Diabolik, as he evades the police at every turn.
Its even more impressive because it was all done on a shoe string budget. He uses lots of Matte paintings to make the setting appear much larger than they are. Essentially we follow Danger Diabolik, whom is public enemy no.
1 in Britain, as he evades the police heist after heist, much to the dismay of Michel Piccoli's character. The things Diabolik does are inventive and fun, with some great gadgets throughout. This film is a product of the times and it does come off as rather campy at moments, but never enough to really effect how much I was entertained.
Just a whole ton of fun.
