Review of Croupier (1998) by Eva G — 21 Oct 2008
One of my favorite Clive Owen movies, this is an awesome drama. Owen is sinfully seductive as always and delivers a powerhouse performance, not to mention looks good as a blond. I heard this was going to be a strong contender at the 1998 Academy Awards but was disqualified because it was shown on Dutch television before it premiered in America.
Too bad, as it was amazing. I loved the film noir themes and intriguing plot. Unfortunately there is one thing I didn't like, which for some reason a lot of British movies tend to have, which is a needless frontal female nudity scene.
I don't care about nudity in a movie if it is done tastefully. This was just excessive; I mean she was getting dressed for bed, there wasn't any sex or anything, and it was completely pointless.
Oh well, it only lasted a second and the rest of the movie was gold.
