Review of Cop Car (2015) by Larry H — 30 Jul 2017
What starts out as a plan to run away from home develops into a dangerous endeavor. At first the film is set up like a quirky adventure from the perspective of two young minds. Then, as the story develops the boys find themselves to be in over their heads and it becomes more of a thriller.
Normally this is where a film like this would falter, but Cop Car executes the balance between childish whimsy, comedy, and gritty thriller without tonal issues. The switch feels like a genuine change due to what we learn of Kevin Bacon's character earlier on in the film.
