Review of Control Room (2004) by Harsha P — 06 Feb 2008
An excellent examination of how media outlets cover world events, specifically the invasion of Iraq. The Arab journalists openly admit that they cannot be completely neutral, which you would never hear a Western journalist say, but that is probably the truth.
The documentary itself is certainly not completely unbiased, but I think it does a good job of fairly showing both sides. There are a lot of documentaries about how different new agencies cover the news, but what sets this above the rest is the amazing editing.
They use what is a single conversation between an American marine and an Al-Jazeera journalist to frame the story arc, which ends with the dismantling of the US command center in Qatar and the marine questioning the way America went to war and the US' approach towards the Middle East.
