Enough action and humor to get u going, one feat few Hong Kong filmmakers can achieve. In the end it lost momentum and the characters becomes plain and dull, lacking the important character development.

While you praise the old style Hong Kong action has the potential to come back to mainstream, you could be mourning the lack of innovation in hong kong cinematographers. No individual style could be performed by filmmakers with artistic ideas.

Maybe the entire culture is to blame.
