Review of Comedy Central Roast of James Franco (2013) by Sarah J — 19 May 2016
Recent roasts have gotten stale... almost the same faces would show up roast after roast, telling the same jokes; it was the to the point where we could almost predict everything. What made it all so much better, was that many of the guests are actually friends of Franco and not just comics for hire.
It didn't feel mean. It was fun. Fun goes a long way at a roast. Andy and Bill knew they were out of their depth in a roast and seemed uncomfortable savagely making fun of their friends. So both came up with their own clever way out of a traditional roast set.
And it was classic.
