Review of CJ7 (2008) by Wesley P — 24 Aug 2008
People just don't get Stephen Chow. His movies continue to perform poorly in the U.S., but it's because U.S. people just don't comprehend Asian culture (I just don't think it can be taught, but must be experienced).
His humor hits the spot for me, and I went through an emotional roller coaster ride of laughter, sadness, and warmth. This movie reveals the not so glamorous side of the Chinese economic bubble along with decay and shift in values due to modernization.
And, he tells this well in a fantasy comedy. Good movie for kids too.
