Review of Choke (2008) by Christine K — 21 Jan 2010
As depraved as you might think Victor is, you get the sense all along that he's not just this one dimensional sex fiend. Sam Rockwell has an obvious depth about him, you can see a lot going on behind his eyes.
Angelica Houston is her usual magnificent self playing "dual" roles, older and younger versions of Victor's mom. By the end you really understand all she's done to and for her son. Given this is based on a Palahniuk book, it's no surprise that the story is a great combo of dark and light, some pretty stark imagery along with really goofy moments, I think it's well balanced.
Really enjoyed this!
