Review of Child of God (2014) by Matthew F. J — 27 Jan 2015
This is a very different type of film, completely and utterly independent art house. The story is unusual , it depicts a man who's clearly insane or at least pretend to be as he slowly fall deeper and deeper into isolation and social margin.
This film is essentially driven by Scott Haze who as Lester Ballard finds here one of the most intense character possible to come across. The film is well shot and slow, depicting the daily struggle of Lester to find food and shelter but also his growing need to find a companion, even if that means surround himself with dead girl's bodies, in his cave like a beast exposing his trophies in his crib.
Very unusual from start to finish, this film deserves a look, just for the sake of watching something really different from what the mainstream cinema has to usually offer. This is an exercise of film making and it's a somehow fascinating one.
