Review of Chéri (2009) by Sey G — 26 Mar 2010
I'm a huge Colette fan and feared that this adaption might really fuck up. It was a nice movie, not more.
Although it has almost everything it needs, beautiful sets and costumes, Michelle Pfeiffer as the breathtaking fairylike Nunun, it just fails to transport the vibe of the novel. Rupert Friend is not pretty enough (in my opinion) as Chéri, though his attitude is absolutely right. The affected behaviour, what feels hilarious while reading the novel, was way to exaggerated in the movie.
I don't know what went wrong, but there are many little things that make that this movie can't keep up with the book.
