Review of Cheeni Kum (2007) by Jp D — 10 Sep 2009
Story of a 64y.o., chef and owner of the best indian restaurant in London, who falls in love for a 34 y.o. (unmarried?! :-p) indian girl. All the usual issues from the age difference, plus the issue of two indian people out of marriageable age (her father is 6 years younger than him). And oh, no dancing scenes at all. This makes for a rather unconventional Bollywood movie, and therefore original in its own way. The two actors are brilliant, and the sideswho kitchen crew, as well as his mother, add to the humour. The part in Delhi is less convincing. The dialogues too are very unconventional for a romance story, where a lot of things are not told but assumed from glances and expressions. One question pops to mind: how much do they spend in intercontinental mobile phone calls between London and Delhi? are these so cheap? :-o.
All in all, a movie to recommend.
