Review of Cavalcade (2005) by Calvin C — 18 Feb 2011
This could basically be retitled "The Twentieth Century Sucks ASS!". It follows a family who has the incredibly unfortunate ability to get themselves involved in every major tragedy between 1900 and 1933.
While the scope of the film is fun (we see different music styles evolving and fashions changing), it's also rather narrow. At times it feels like there's this amazing movie happening offscreen as characters talk about their husbands going off to war while sitting in their drawing room.
I'm sure it's not entirely fair to judge this film from a modern perspective (and in its defense there's a really cool World War I Montage, and a delightfully corny scene onboard the Titanic), but it is quite dull, and feels like the rantings of an old person who can't stand them youngens.
