Review of Cannibal Holocaust (1980) by Chris C — 28 Jan 2012
This film represented many factors reflecting todays society. It was barbaric, ruthless, violent. However we find ourselves asking, "who are the real savages?" The civilised modern man, walking into a tribes territory and destroying their homes, terrorizing them and the animalistic rape of one of the tribes members.
The animal killings were completely unnecessary, yet if they are so disgusting, why are we watching the film in the first place? When the men are watching the young woman being punished for adultery (an ironic punishment) they easily could have stopped it.
Instead, they agree too "sit back and enjoy the show." What does this tell us about man as a whole? But are we any better than the men, as we also are sitting back and enjoying the show? The film gives us a lot to think about, and is genius in reflecting mans real ways.
