Review of Call Me Lucky (2015) by Richard D — 04 Apr 2015
With a dedication to Robin Williams, this honest portrait of Bobcat Goldthwait's friend and contemporary Barry Crimmins re-introduces the piss and vinegar of Crimmins' stand-up assault and successfully summons the things that haunted him on and off stage.
In a way, Goldthwait's inaugural documentary carries through it a very clear vision of the ugliness of human compulsion and the poisonous nature of the vices of celebrity and those who are infatuated with it.
But at it's core Goldthwait goes to great lengths to explore the survivalist spirit and humanitarianism of his friend Barry Crimmins.
