Review of Bra Boys (2007) by Liam P — 16 Nov 2007
Bra Boys amounts to nothing more than a home movie but still sometimes home movies can be worth watching. It touches on some interesting cultural and social dilemmas Australia continues to face, but it doesn't delve into them with much depth.
I think part of the problem is Sunny Abberton's role behind the camera. I think had someone with a more objective point of view, someone a little removed from the story, been behind the project the film has a whole would have stood on its own two feet as a more impressive observation of the Maroubra surfing culture.
Still, it's a worthwhile entry into the Australian documentary vault.
