Review of Boy (2010) by Sasha N — 28 Feb 2012
A movie that's unashamedly made by a Kiwi for Kiwis. If it was merely packed with laughs, imagination and fun it would still be a really great and memorable comedy, but Taika isn't afraid of taking the story further and gives us more.
The real genius is in the combination of casting (all the kids are pretty amazing) and letting us see their emotions through their fantasies and their imagination. There are messages about parental responsibilities and about boys growing (or never growing) into men there, but the movie's heart comes from the kids, the biggest one being the director himself.
