Review of Bone (1972) by Allan C — 13 Dec 2014
Larry Cohen is one of my favorite low budget genre directors because he often mixes interesting ideas and social commentary in a way that also manages to hit all the right genre notes, whether he's doing horror, westerns, sci-fi or blaxploitation.
This pictures doesn't fall neatly into a particular genre. In this film, Yaphet Kotto is a criminal who breaks into the house of a rich white couple, only to be discovered. He then holds the couple hostage and forces the husband to go get money while he keeps his wife hostage.
Since this is a Larry Cohen written and directed script, things don't play out quite like you'd expect. Andrew Duggan is the husband and Joyce Van Patten are good the couple in a loveless marriage, but steals the show as the titular Bone.
A must see for b-picture and Cohen fans. I can't believe it took me so long to watch this picture of his.
