Review of Blue Like Jazz (2012) by Ian P — 14 Apr 2012
I was impressed by Miller and Taylor's ability to take the audience on a journey of faith without making it pretentious or unrealistic. I'm not normally a fan of the narration, but it was definitely necessary to take Miller's essays in the Blue Like Jazz from the page to the screen.
After the movie, the narration is what proves to be the most insightful part--providing peace of mind for when I wanted to sort out what happened to some of the other relationships in the plot. (I'll give you a hint, it's like jazz.
) And the cinematography, though subtle at times, is creative and ebullient.
