Review of Beyond (2014) by Rob B — 14 Feb 2015
Too often films are crammed in to the tight little corner of space that we too often have labeled as genre. Beyond begs to be a movie "beyond" such labeling.
Working on a microscopic budget, Beyond's director Baker chose to opt out. He opted out of the aliens, the destruction of an apocalyptic event, the shakey cam, the monsters descending from the sky. Instead, thankfully, Baker chose to bring upon us the resurrection of science fiction.
Science fiction is alive and well. For every Jupiter ascending, there is a "Beyond", and the work is better for it.
