Review of Beaufort (2007) by David G — 09 Jul 2008
Interesting "army" movie that's more about the soldiers themselves than combat. There are no battle sequences here at all and aside from a few Hezbollah mortar and rocket attacks no violence to speak of.
The film focuses on a force of Israeli soldiers and the last fews days of the occupation of the ancient mountaintop fort of Beaufort in Lebanon before the final withdrawl in 2000. We see the soldiers' stress and despair as well as their comradery and friendship and also their reactions to the retreat and the attacks from an unseen enemy.
I particularly liked the story arc of the bomb squad soldier Ziv - quite shocking.
