Review of Automata (2014) by Adpirtle — 23 Oct 2014
This film reminded me of District 9, in that the setup is far more interesting than the resolution, which, for the most part, eschews the sci-philosophical subject matter in favor of a paint-by-numbers industrial thriller, complete with villains who are far less fleshed out than the film's flesh-less robots.
However, the first half really is very good, and the second half is good enough to make me wonder what an interesting film this might have made if it had dispensed with the evil henchmen and focused more on the robots' leader through its interactions with Jacq.
